73 was produced by Bob Johnston, the producer of Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde, At Folsom Prison and Songs from a Room, who came out of retirement to make it; it was among the last records of his six-decade career. The sessions ran in Nashville and at Konk Studios in London, with Tony Kosinec as executive producer. In London, Tony Calder, who had promoted the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, managed the release.
The album carries ten tracks: eight of Falbo’s own songs and two covers of his heroes, Paul Simon and John Lennon. Reviewing it for Uncut, Bud Scoppa scored it 7/10 and heard “echoes of Falbo’s heroes” all over the record; Johnston’s own words on the sessions are on the Praise page. Each track page carries the lyrics, the notes published with the original release, and the credits.
